DESCRIPTION:CELPiE is the Community for Evidence-Led Practice in Education at St Andrews \nWe are delighted to announce that we are planning to host the first ever CELPiE showcase event\, with a provisional date of the 5th October (afternoon).  We are looking for volunteers from the community who would like to offer a 5-6 minute presentation at the event.  Presentations should broadly be in the areas of\, Learning and Teaching development\, HE policy or practice enhancement/improvement\, scholarship of L&T or HE research.  Professional Service staff are encouraged to present as well as academic staff and presentations can be delivered by individuals or teams\, as long as it fits into the time format.  We are hoping that presenters will deliver in-person and that the event itself will be delivered in a hybrid format.  If you’re interested\, please reply on the CELPiE Teams site with your name and a rough title for your talk\, or email Gerald Prescott (grp2@st-andrews.ac.uk) or Ken Mavor (ken.mavor@st-andrews.ac.uk). SUMMARY:Enhancement Conference 2022 [Hybrid]: Resilient Learning Communities - inclusive\, flexible\, and accessible
DESCRIPTION:[From the Website] \nQAA Scotland’s Enhancement Conference\, the UK’s largest dedicated to learning and teaching and the student experience\, will be held in Glasgow on 8 and 9 June 2022. For the first time\, the conference will take place in a hybrid format\, with the opportunity to attend in person (subject to guidance) or watch online. \nWe are expecting at least 300-500 delegates\, including students and staff from across our universities and colleges\, from both academic and student support roles. \nCONFERENCE PROGRAMME\n  \nThe programme features a refreshing and versatile mix of live and pre-prepared content to allow both synchronous and asynchronous engagement. It features a range of speakers and activities relating to our current Enhancement Theme\, Resilient Learning Communities\, following two main strands: \nDay 1 – Equality\, Diversity and Inclusion\n\nLearners have a wide range of characteristics\, experience\, needs and expectations. Participants will earn an ALT CPD Open Badge which can be used as evidence towards accreditation via one of the pathways in ALT’s CMALT framework.  \nIf you missed a previous CPD webinar\, recordings are available over on Youtube; 2021 Playlist\, 2022 playlist. \nPresenter:    Rob Lowney\, Fiona O’Riordan and Ruth Ní Bheoláin \nInvolving students as partners in the assessment process helps develop assessment literacy (Ní Bheoláin et al\, 2020)\, support student engagement (National Forum\, 2017)\, and recognises students’ agency and their being experts in their own learning (NStEP\, 2016). Moreover\, it helps support academic integrity (Egan\, 2018) and universal design for learning (CAST\, 2018). \nSince 2020\, an initiative at Dublin City University (DCU) has been piloting a number of partnership approaches to assessment in different modules. These approaches range from low-level (such as students choosing a topic for an assessment) to high-level (such as students co-creating grading criteria). A summary of potential approaches is available in this short guiding resource: https://bit.ly/sapia Evaluations of these pilots have shown greater student engagement and performance in the relevant modules. \nLearning technology is used extensively to support these approaches\, often in combination. In this CPD webinar\, the DCU experience of student partnership in assessment will be shared\, with a focus on the role of learning technology. It is hoped attendees will gain an understanding of this topic and be enabled and encouraged to try technology-supported learning student partnership in assessment in their own contexts.

SUMMARY:EUA Webinar: Embedding DELT (digitally enhanced learning and teaching) into curriculum and assessment
DESCRIPTION:[from the web link] \nEUA is offering a webinar on Thursday\, 21 April\, 14.00-15.00 CEST\, to present the outcomes from the 2021 Thematic Peer Group (TPG) on Curriculum and Assessment. This TPG took place in the framework of the DIGI HE project\, and focused on how to embed digitally enhanced learning and teaching (DELT) into curriculum and assessment. In its final report\, the TPG also proposed a set of recommendations to higher education institutions. \nThe recent and rapid adoption of DELT was a new (and uncertain) approach for many staff and students. Many institutions have since returned to a face-to-face or blended learning approach in their teaching. But what have higher education institutions learned from the online experience? What challenges regarding curricula and assessment are still to be faced in the ‘new normal’ ahead\, and which are common across digital and face-to-face teaching? The TPG on Curriculum and Assessment addressed this theme through five key areas. These are: institutional strategies to embed DELT into curricula; supporting and empowering teachers in experimenting and innovating in digital education; embedding assessment as an integral part of curricula; developing assessment literacy for students and teachers; and an overarching area that underpins the others – reaching equity of opportunity across the board for both students and staff.

DESCRIPTION:As you can imagine we have been giving a lot of thought to BERA Conference 2021 and what it might look like and how to deliver the most inclusive\, accessible and engaging event. To that end\, we have made the decision now to host it as an entirely online conference. We will miss the opportunity to gather in person but the ongoing uncertainty generated by Covid-19\, the likely restrictions on international travel and the desire to enable as many people as possible to present and attend means that we think our energies are best spent planning the very best digital experience we can offer. \nConference will still take place in the week of 13th September 2021 and while we are still exploring the best platforms and formats to us; we are committed to hosting an innovative and interactive event that will be both live and on demand and which will hopefully enable more people than ever to engage in the opportunities that BERA Conference traditionally offers. Our online events so far have seen significant numbers attend and reach beyond our traditional audiences and we hope to replicate that with the conference itself. \nSo please keep your diaries free that week and start planning to be part of the 2021 conference experience. DESCRIPTION:Deadline Extended to 5th July\nThe Call for Papers for HEIR 2021 is now open. The conference itself is 22-24th September\, Online.  Abstract submissions due 12th June. \nCall for Papers\nWe are delighted to open the 2021 HEIR Conference for submissions. The theme of the conference is Inclusive Institutional Research. \nThere will be four tracks running throughout the conference: \n1.    Building an inclusive student experience \n2.    Evidencing inclusive policies and practices \n3.    Developing an inclusive institutional culture \n4.    Supporting best practice in learning\, teaching\, analytics and student experience \nWe invite submissions for all four tracks in one of the following presentation formats: \nLong talks                   (25-minute presentation and 20-minute facilitated discussion) \nShort talks                   (10-minute presentation\, with additional time for questions) \nWorkshop                    (45-minute interactive sessions) \nPechaKucha talks       (20 slide presentation\, with each slide delivered in 20 seconds) \nSubmissions describing ongoing and emerging work\, as well as complete pieces\, are encouraged for short and PechaKucha talks. \nThe submission portal for abstracts (250-words) will open on 12 April and close on 12 June. It will give us the opportunity to learn more about the findings of an international comparative study exploring how approaches to education can help to reconnect urban communities thanks to radical forms of engagement between institutions and communities.  \nAbstract:  \nEducation theory\, policy and practice are key factors\, not only in the improvement of a place’s academic and socio-economic outcomes but also in the development of the socio-educational relationships required to (re)connect communities in our urban cities and beyond. However\, the ways in which education can help build stronger democratic relationships with local communities is often overlooked by policymakers.  \nThis symposium features international examples of research and practice that illustrate how urban cities are attempting to (re)connect communities by viewing education as a lived experience\, a process that involves developing a shared understanding of the connections and implications of individuals’ social situations and experiences and the range and meanings of different situations and experiences.  \nBringing these different projects and initiatives together in this way addresses gaps in policy and research by illuminating the extent to which a place and its communities can become more relational through a place’s education theories\, policies and practices. DESCRIPTION:The involvement of students in curriculum design for Higher and Further Education presents exciting opportunities; but we also want to explore the limits of this approach. \nWhat are the pay-offs\, what are the barriers\, and what are the implications for both students and staff? The campfire will discuss these and other relevant issues using\, of course\, a coproduction approach! \nStudents and Staff: designing curricula together? \nThe Young Academy of Scotland is hosting a workshop at 1pm on Thursday 24th September in the ‘Discovery Tent’ at the Creative Bravery Festival (https://creativebraveryfestival.com/). We will be digging down into one of the topics raised by our joint RSE/YAS discussions on the future of Tertiary Education: the opportunities and challenges of involving students in the design of classes/modules/curricula. It will be an interactive workshop\, offering participants the chance to try out some co-design in real time as we explore the possibilities and barriers.
